I know... Missing a post and a "guess the back list" giveaway. I do have a good excuse and some exciting news to announce.
Actually they're both tied together.
I am interning with Melville House Publishing this fall, starting in early September. Melville House, as those of you that frequent the blog already know, is a firm that I greatly respect and the opportunity to work with and learn from them is extremely exciting.
In order to prepare for this I've been reading a lot of stuff beyond what I'd normally be reading to operate this blog full time. It isn't always apparent, but often I read two or three books before I find one to do as a "front list" title in the weekly Front List/Back List post. My philosophy has always been to recommend the good instead of trying to weed out the bad. Because of that philosophy I sometimes have to read a couple of books in order to find one to comment on.
So as I read for this fall (both Melville House titles I need to familiarize myself with and ones I've kept on the special shelf) I'm going to have a hard time keeping up with the blog. That is not to say that I won't be doing posts, as I will. When I can I will post Front List/ Back List posts. Additionally I am sending out a few select invites to some folks to invite them to do guest posts.
So... I'm hoping to have at least two posts a month and thus remain worth your while.
There are two ways to escape suffering it. The first is easy for many: accept the inferno and become such a part of it that you can no longer see it. The second is risky and demands constant vigilance and apprehension: seek and learn to recognize who and what, in the midst of the inferno, are not inferno, then make them endure, give them space."
